Yarran’s Getting Started Program

The Getting Started program is a flexible, outreach identification, screening & referral program for children aged 0-5 years on the NSW Central Coast.

Children are referred to the Getting Started program when concerns for their development (in 3 or more areas) have been identified by their family, preschool or childcare service.

Who can access the Getting Started Program?

  • Children on the Central Coast aged 0-5 years prior to school entry.

  • Children where concerns exist for their development (in 3 or more developmental areas).

The Getting Started program:

  • Responds to the concerns from a family or childcare service about a child’s current level of development.

  • Provides screening and identification of developmental areas of concern and the needs of the child within mainstream environments.

  • Facilitates the child and family’s access to information, services, assessments & funding based on their individual needs and goals.

  • Provides observations and reports that the family may use to access assessments and / or funding for their child if appropriate or requested by the family.

  • Is a free service that provides short-term support for Central Coast families.

  • Support is flexible but also time limited when outcomes have been achieved.

Outcomes:

  • Children’s need for specialists’ services, assessments and funding options are identified and accessed.

  • Support networks are developed and maintained for the family and child.

  • Children and families have access to specialists’ services, programs and funding needed to address developmental delays.

  • Children with a disability or developmental delay receive early intervention.

  • Children demonstrate increased participation, engagement, and independence.
